Schumer sings from Lautenberg song book

The feds have given Gov. Christie another deadline for paying or appealing their demand New Jersey return the $271 million Washington threw at the tunnel to Macy's basement. And this time, it's Tuesday, no kidding. Do you think the governor is shaking in his sandals? Hardly. Christie said other states weren't treated like us when their projects got canceled. And, the feds sent the money although the tunnel didn't have final approval or safeguards against waste. Christie canceled the project -- championed by the usual hangers-on suspects and sell-out environmental outfits -- because it would have required New Jersey alone to foot the bill for cost overruns. That was estimated to be in the billions of dollars. New Jersey has hired a Washington-based law firm to fight the feds. Meanwhile, New York's U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer has proven himself to be as big a windbag as our own Frank Lautenberg. Schumer was critical of Christie's tunnel cancellation  but then his state wouldn't have to pay for the cost overruns. If Schumer and Lautenberg want to do something productive they can ask Washington transportation bureaucrats why they sent the money up here before there was approval or safeguards. And they might get their butts to working on getting Amtrak's proposed new tunnel in place.
